Re: Rickenbacker Bar
We were looking at some aerial images at work today near Stanton Harcourt and spotted some strange tracks made in some fields to the south of the village (see attached). We weren't sure what they were for. Do the Oxford Oddies know what they are?

Intrigued. We have little idea. Sounds like a challenge. I may take the camera out tomorrow.

I reckon quad bike racing track. Unofficial.

I think from the satellite imagery they are pretty clearly tracks mown into the vegetation - the sort of effect you'd get if you ran a pasture topper through like the one we mow our paddock with. They are located out at the back of Park Farms, which used to be a University animal research place until it was closed down, and which is now a collection of small industrial units. My guess would be that it has been done for the benefit of the local shoot - a nice easy set of paths to walk along whilst leaving plenty of ground cover for the birds in between.

Re: Rickenbacker Bar
There are some ancient walkways which do show up on satellite imagery around the area as I have been shown them before but those tend to be straighter.

Re: Rickenbacker Bar
Are you sure it's not Guest's well-worn route towards HQ?

Swam in the sea proper for the first time in ages today - slightly chilly but a gorgeous beach, and very hot once you got out.

Then we had a delicious and entertaining lunch (though slightly stressful at the start) - owing to a combination of the one cashpoint on the island (offlying bit of Faro estuary) being dry and hardly any of the bars / restaurants showing menus outside we found ourselves slightly outpriced when presented with the menus and had to negotiate a deal with the waitress in Portugenglish :D

Somehow for 5 euros each we got a pair of grilled mackerel apiece with a couple of salads between us, as well as bread and olives to start off, so we even got groceries on the way back

Re: Rickenbacker Bar
Very healthy.

It's back to warming curries here today.

We nipped out to feed Julia's cat today and Mum is feeling much more relaxed about the tidiness of her house. It's taken five years but they have finally filled the big house to the same level as their cottage was before they moved.

Pee Pee was there to greet us and wolfed down his Wiskas.

Re: Rickenbacker Bar
New gangplank made - it is excellent and barely moves when you walk across it - it is also quite wide so easy to walk across - excellent job by N

Today is clearing under the tree canopy and putting in some mini terraces on the bank - N is at work at the moment so this will all be done later when he returns - I might make him a cuppa first though

Boo and I will need to go into town today to get some pegs and some plants i think so hopefully she will now go and sort out some clothes as she is reading this over my shoulder! (Boo laughs!)

Looking forward to tomorrow should be a BRILLIANT day! Can't wait to see my bestie mate! You too, Simon!
