The Secret: a Fizzy Experiment
Preface: Watch the video before reading the rest of the post. Its both funny and important.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usbNJMUZSwo

Okay well that's all well and dandy but does the "Secret" work? Being scientific in nature, I decided to test this out, using scientific method of course. My experiment will last 3 weeks, one per "step" as outlined in the clip. If needed I will repeat. Here it goes.

1. Define the question.
  • Does The Secret work and can I use it to get my friend David to go out with me?
2. Gather information.
  • I read the Wikipedia and official pages of The Secret as well as watched the video above.
3.Form hypothesis.
  • If The Secret works, as outlined from the sources, then David will become my boyfriend and the universe will bend to my command.
4. Perform the experiment.
  • In process.
5. Analyze data TBA
6. Interpret data and draw conclusions that serve as a starting point for new hypothesis TBA
7. Publish results, TBA
8. Retest, possibly TBA

And week one, ASK, commences tomorrow, Monday, June 12th, 2010. Hurrah!

That video is hilarious.

Deeb just dress nicely and use evil feminine guiles to guile him. Also if his name is David and you're both Jewish, you totally have an ice-breaker!

Re: The Secret: a Fizzy Experiment
Nice spoof.

I have The Secret. It's strangely convincing. There is real power in positive thinking. However you have to stay within what is actually possible and make the right moves (a la Ed). It doesn't actually work by magic.

If it works it works by giving you confidence, making you take a chance on things and by looking and acting the part. I also allows your subconscious to give you the benefit of its wisdom. Most of what you know is not sitting there on the top bit of your brain where you think you live.

You can try to get a boyfriend in a good frame of mind by hitting the gym, wearing a pretty dress, and going to parties or you can not believe and try by staying in bed all day, eating cookies, not washing and wearing black sarcastic T shirts...

So on the whole I think it's worth a try.

However, I've been acting like I am a millionaire for years, staring at pictures of huge houses and diamond necklaces, hanging out in posh venues, imagining myself sun basking on private yachts, but the actual money has still not materialised.

Re: The Secret: a Fizzy Experiment

I do go to parties with him there and being me, I can't not dress relatively nicely. I'm going to try and put a thing together where we go down to this waterfall. Beautiful scenery, a waterfall and a boy to "help" me if I trip.

Also I have been getting hints from him such as at the last party he talked to me more than usual. At the end I had to leave in a hurry (my mom was outside, I was only in a bathing suit, my stuff was in 5 different locations) and he said I couldn't go without hugging him. He's done other things too that sound weird to explain.

Also Ed, he is Jewish, but not at all religious. (Good)

Day 1: Created a mantra of asking to repeat to myself when bored or falling asleep (I usually count in order to fall asleep). Not sure if I will do a cut out of his picture or draw him yet.

Re: The Secret: a Fizzy Experiment
A waterfall is a great idea. You do know about the wobbly bridge effect?

In a nutshell they put an attractive woman on a very wobbly suspension bridge - hanging over a river. She asked men crossing if they would take part in this study and write a story. In a second situation she was placed on a sturdy bridge where one could jump off without getting hurt. At the end of the study she told the participants that she couldn't tell them what it was about, but if they wanted to call her later she would then (and she tore off a piece of paper with her number on it). The findings were that those on the wobbly bridge wrote stories replete with sexual content and were much more likely to call her than those on the sturdy bridge suggesting that we interpret the racing heart of fear with the racing heart of sexual desire. It makes sense to me. Findings point to a stronger bonding experience related to a racing heart - be it through laughter or fear - so it makes you wonder if your limerent response is really your biology just convincing you that your LO is the only beloved person on the face of the planet?

Re: The Secret: a Fizzy Experiment
I agree with Ed. Score two for the impulsive.
Really, if he likes you then he already likes you and this experiment is futile. If he doesn't, I guess you have more of a variable, but the experiment works on the premise that what you want is in reach you just need the confidence to confront it
