New Album Starts Gestation
May 15, 2009 - 7:44 AM - by stargazer

Peter and Mike are in the studio laying down tracks before they let Michael loose on them. There is an interview here they say.

http://pitchfork.com/news/35333-pete...new-rem-album/

Pitchfork: I understand you guys are very early in the recording process right now.

Peter Buck: Yeah, I'm not even sure you could say we've started the record. But Mike [Mills] and I write all the time, and I had a bunch of songs we were going over during soundcheck on the last tour. I just didn't want to forget mine. Mike had some stuff he wanted to do. We never do demos; we just go in and record. And I was like "Well, I have a lot of equipment in Portland; we can do it there." And I've worked at Jackpot! Studio before. It just seemed like the thing to do.

Pitchfork: So this is the equivalent of singing into your answering machine, getting all this stuff down while you still have it fresh in your head?

PB: Well, for me it's kind of analogous to, say, a cigarette machine. There is a pile of things, and you have to get one out of the way to get the next one. If I have 10 or 12 songs floating around, I have trouble writing more because I'm trying to remember the other ones. And a lot of them I'll play into a computer, but it's just an acoustic guitar and me kind of mumbling and humming and stuff. It's great to have the band play the things and focus. And now that we have these 14 songs that we are starting the process of, you kind of go, "OK, this is what we are doing, now I get the idea. I can write some more stuff."

Pitchfork: So you don't know if any of these 14 songs... [Read More]

Root is 18!

Yes, James, your boy wonder site creator and sometime web master is now a man. So if you start plotting the downfall of Western governments on Oddies the men in black will be calling on him instead of me.

Happy Birthday (insert embarrassing nickname of choice)

He doesn't want a fuss, so you can imagine how much I had to hold myself in. Family lunch on Saturday and an open BBQ with a small LAN party overnight merging into a second BBQ party and karting expedition on Sunday.

All welcome on Saturday from 4ish onwards.

Spring arrives for Oddies in the Northern hemisphere
Mar 01, 2009 - 6:36 PM - by In the Rain
It is the 1st of March today - officially the first day of spring at Oddies HQ. Appropriately enough for St David's Day, the daffodils are out.
