Welcome to OddfellowsLocal, affectionately known as Oddies. Regular members call themselves Odds. We are an REM fan site in theory but seldom in practice, although we always enjoy a touch of REMness. Most posts are about random things of interest. Our main object is to amuse and be amused.
Guests are welcome to register to join in the fun. Membership gains privileges of entry to the legendary Rickenbacker Bar, where we spend most of our time, and to the luxurious Therapy Wing. There are no advertisements and no idiots and we only admit first grade nutters.

Oddies Stays Open for SOPA Day |

Closing down for a day in protest at the anti piracy law being pushed through in America seems pointless because.
1 It would only inconvenience me, James and Ed (possibly Fee if she is bored at work)
2 All Odds are pinko pirates anyway.
3 Guest would suffer terrible sunburn if they are forced to go outside instead.
So I am taking the radical step of staying open. Much as going dark seems appealing.
Perhaps we can pick a subject closer to home to protest?
Ideas?

Hi everyone! You may have noticed we went offline for several hours on the 8th of December. We're not thrilled with downtime, and happily neither are our hosts.
The downtime was a result of a power failure to networking equipment on both halves of a redundant circuit, which itself was a result of a third party rack rental service mistakenly cancelling service to some racks, which resulted in the power loss. As a result, our hosts have taken the decision to remove all of their servers from this facility to a new facility that they have been building in the last year which has been their home for new orders in the past year. It's a much nicer place, located in Coventry, much better connected and entirely owned by the hosts.
Long story short, Oddies will be down on the 17th of December starting at midnight and hopefully finishing at 4AM, depending on when I'm about to restart the software that Oddies needs on the server when it comes up.
We'll also have another outage later in December, probably around the 21st to the 23rd, for around 12 hours; this will be to replace vBulletin with either an upgraded version of vBulletin, or alternative software, as our version of vBulletin is full of bugs and security holes, having not been updated for a year or two.
